About South Beach Mango Festival

It all began on a sunny day when Robert Lansburgh was eating a mango in his kitchen. Awed by its flavor, he decisively stated that Miami Beach should have its mango festival. Joining powers with Allen Susser, whom he had then known for over 30 years and who was the head Chef at the Monaco Dining Room at Turnberry Isle, he formed a full vision of a festival that would bring lots of palate-tingling flavors and joy to its participants, and at the same time benefit a charity—Big Brother and Big Sisters of Miami, of which Robert is a Big Brother

The event schedule that the two have formed includes entertainment suitable for both kids and adults. While the former bounce their way across inflatable houses, parents get to participate in a mango eating competition or put their skills up to a test during a mango dessert contest. For all who would like to learn how to eat a mango differently than just by peeling its skin off, South Beach Mango Festival has prepared cooking classes and sessions with mango experts. To complement the fun, it has also invited a DJ and prepared live music entertainment.

It was basically a paid-to-play farmer's market. Nothing I couldn't have seen elsewhere for free.
