Despite the atmosphere of personal liberation in the '60s, having dyed hair at the time was still considered taboo. "We only colored hair in private rooms because no one wanted to admit they were having their hair colored at the time," Anthony LaRoche reminisced in a 2014 interview with Folio Weekly magazine.

Since that time, a lot has changed in Mr. LaRoche's career as a stylist. For one, he no longer has to carry out dye jobs in secret, instead giving his clients bold colors they can show off with confidence. He also carries with him the knowledge and experience of having owned and operated 14 salons, which he now puts to good use at Anthony's 1558. While he still creates the custom coifs his clients have always appreciated, a team of stylists, massage therapists, and skin-care specialists support his mission with a variety of other services like refreshing facials and body treatments.
