About Mangia Mangia

Though it's been a family secret since 1936, Mangia Mangia owners Emilio and Maria Dacoba award ample clues to guests who come dine at their tables topped with red-and-white checkered cloths. The secret's in the sauce—specifically, Nonna Rosa's spaghetti sauce, a family favorite that flavors many of Mangia Mangia's dishes. Along with creating Italian feasts the traditional way using family recipes, the duo caters to dietary restrictions with gluten-free pasta options and gluten-free crusts on some of their pizzas. For parties too large for the normal dining room or too devoted to wearing hoop skirts, Mangia Mangia also offers a 70-seat banquet room, an ideal locale for family reunions and rehearsal dinners.

We ended up going to Mangia in Oshtemo because of the long wait at the downtown restaurant. This was my own fault for waiting until the last day before my groupon expired. I do like the Oshtemo restaurant, also, but our server left something to be desired. He was obviously not interested in being there, or maybe just preferred not to wait tables....we were seated in the lounge and he was also the bartender there. I'm not sure what caused the delay in food preparation was but it took well over 1/2 hour after ordering to get our meals. Mine was delicious, but my husband thought his clam fettucini was very bland.

The service here was slow and inattentive both times I've eaten here. Even on slow nights during the week it takes 30 minutes to get a salad and 45-60m to get your food. If you sit in the bar you'll sit and watch as the bartender moves with zero sense of urgency as you have been waiting 10 minutes for a glass of water and a wine refill and there's no teamwork what so ever here. Two servers stood and waited as the bartender filled the beers they needed, meanwhile a gentlemen had been sitting at the bar next to me for a good 10 minutes before anyone greeted him....perhaps one of those waitresses could have walked over and welcomed the poor guy/handed him a menu and a water while they waited
