Food was warm, as opposed to being hot like restaurant food should be. I had previously had a chicken pot pit at the 59 Diner off of I-59 at lunch time and was amazed with the pot pie. This is the second time I have eaten at a 59 Diner since then and we won't be back. Carrots and Mac & Cheese were also not hot. Mac & Cheese was very ordinary as were the carrots. Carrots were not fresh. I suspect that they were re-heated from yesterdays fare. Overall, the food was very bland. I don't need to drive 20 miles to purchase bland food. There are plenty of restaurants in my neighborhood that serve bland food.

This restaurant chain has been a forgotten TREASURE that I should be eating at SEVERAL times a year. I am a FAN of COMFORT FOOD Diners and 59 Diner restaurants are among the best in this category. I got TWO meals fully intending to TRY both and take a LOT of left-overs home with me. Totally enjoyed BOTH the Meatloaf and the Chicken Fried Steak. BOTH were very generous portions and right along the lines of how I prepare both of these dishes when I do them for myself. My only suggested CHANGE would be to INCLUDE a SPOON in the table service rather than just fork and butter knife. The whole kernel corn would have been much easier with a spoon.

I've had heard a lot of good things about the diner, but it was a huge disappointment. The food smelt weird, utensils and cups were dirty, and they were out of some items, service could have been, considering we were the only ones in the place

From Our Editors

Inside each 59 Diner location, friendly chatter ripples from booth to booth and white-capped servers scurry around dishing out retro classics. Recognized by the Houston Press as among the city's best in 2009, 59 Diner's made-from-scratch milk shakes and malts slide across tables in old-fashioned glasses before coating tongues in such flavors as mocha, fudge, and Oreo. Sweet sips offset savory burgers, patty melts, and all-day breakfast specials, which can also be ordered in pint-size portions for younger patrons. Meals transport tongues to the past, and jukeboxes release vintage tunes into the air, inspiring guests to try to catch their favorite notes inside empty glasses.
