Q&A with Kimberly Smothermon, Coach And Owner

When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?
I started gymnastics when I was young and then started coaching, as I loved the sport and didnt want to leave it. I opened my own gym 11 years ago and have loved working with children. We are a non-competitive gym because I feel, after competing myself as a child, that too many hours in the gym isn't healthy. But gymnastics is a great sport. It helps in every other sport and is fun.

What is one fun, unusual fact about your business?
That we are a non-competitive gym with seven Exhibition teams that perform at schools. The teams ... range in age from five years old through High School.

What special training do you or your staff have?
Myself and several staff members are USA gymnastics members and have been to USA national congress several times. [We are] also first aid and CPR certified.

Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
Our gym is a fun, and we teach in a loving and fun atmosphere. We love all children regardless of their age, size, or skill level.

My grands loved camp, but it was hard work. If you are doing camp, be prepared for tired kids and sore muscles. Both girls want to sign up for lessons, so I would say the experience was positive in spite of the hard work.
