The People
Makai Adventures is a locally owned business built around a small team of full-time Hawaii residents, whose wisdom about the area, Hawaiian history, and marine life shines through on every adventure. All captains are licensed by the US Coast Guard, and the entire team is First Aid- and CPR-certified.
The Fleet
There are two main vessels, including Kainalu (Ocean Wave). This boat was custom designed for small-group whale watching, snorkeling, and light-tackle fishing adventures, and comes complete with cushioned seating. Kainani (Beautiful Ocean), meanwhile, is a 45-foot Beneteau Oceanis private charter sailing yacht that carries up to six people for sunset cruises, snorkeling, and sightseeing.
The Adventures
The adventure you choose depends on what you want to see—and also how long you want to be out on the water. From December through April, two-hour whale-watching adventures shed light on thousands of humpback whales that have migrated to Hawaii from cold Alaskan waters. There are also six-hour snorkeling excursions that often cross paths with dolphins, as well as four-hour light-tackle fishing tours to catch your own dinner.
