About Children's Maritime Foundation

At the Children's Maritime Foundation, kids learn about maritime history by boarding a historic boat and setting sail into the waters of Southern California—with a guide at the helm, of course. Thankfully, charter cruises allow adults to enjoy the trip, too.

The boat: American Pride, a 130-foot, three-masted schooner, originally built in 1941 as a commercial fishing ship.

The K-12 educational tours: On the marine ecology tour, kids learn about aquatic ecosystems and animals, such as gray whales and ecru whales. Living history tours, on the other hand, focus on the gold rush, life on the docks, and the earliest treaties between pelicans and humans.

The charters: These tours range from a whale-watching trip to a Sunday brunch cruise with a buffet-style meal—and an optional shot at steering the ship.

Great time, the food was great too! The crew was awesome Things to know, bring your own wine and enjoy, get on early so you can find a spot on the boat to sit, there won't be chairs but there's plenty of comfortable places to sit. Don't look for a major experience from the trip, the experience is simply being on a boat at sea while the sun goes down while eating a good buffet style dinner with a loved one; if you keep that in mind you'll have a great time. dress comfortably, This isn't high class, this is a great time to sit back and relax. And don't worry about getting sea sick, the boat moves slow and never leaves the harbor. I would do it again!

When we called to make a reservation, the woman who answers the phone was very pleasant & thorough. We can't say enough great things about this sunset cruise. The staff was wonderful, the food was delicious and we made a few friends on the ship! Dress casual as they tell you to do. I fell by wearing platforms and trying to videotape and they were ready with their first aid kits to help bandage me up! Thank you Maritime foundation for what turned out to be one of our most memorable dates!
