What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Unlike most car rental companies, we offer inexpensive short-term and longterm rentals without all the excessive fees. We also offer three different types of mileage programs to best suit your needs: pay per mile, 100 miles per day, and unlimited.

What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
699 Rent A Car sprung out of a mom and pop used car lot that was hit terribly by the poor economy. The owner decided to start a rent-to-own program almost 14 years ago, where every car was $6.99/day and $0.10/mile. The concept was a hit and eventually grew into a standard rent-a-car company.

What do you love most about your job?
We love getting to meet all the wonderful people traveling from all over the world to visit us here in Los Angeles. We take pride in our city and state, and offer our customers great recommendations of places to see and things to do.

What is the best reaction you've ever gotten from a customer?
A couple of our longterm renters who have been renting for over a decade have told us they will never own a car again because we are significantly cheaper.

When I showed up at the reserved time to pick up my car, I was told that it wasn't there yet. Still at the Hollywood location. The options given to me were to drive to the Hollywood site and pick up the car or wait 2 hours until it arrived in Van Nuyd. Mind you, I was picking up the car in Van Nuys to leave town and Hollywood was in the opposite direction of my destination with LA Friday afternoon traffic building. I asked if I could rent a different car that was ready at the Van Nuys location, was accommodated with a questionable Dodge Avenger with obvious body damage and cigarette burns on the seat. not what I signed up for but I needed to get on the road and I was assured the car would be reliable for my travels to the Bay Area. Said car got me to Napa and then Saturday morning had major mechanical issues that started with a blown radiator hose. I called 699 and they said they would find a local mechanic to fix the car and get me back on the road. After waiting for 2 hours, the mechanics showed up and two hours after that I was told there were greater problems than the radiator hose and I would NOT be getting back on the road today. Now this is a Saturday in Napa. 699 didn't have the best solution for me. Initially they asked if I could rent another car from another agency since they don't have any locations near me and then come BACK to Napa on Monday and switch out the cars to drive the Dodge death machine back to LA for them. I quickly declined and was told my only other option would be to accept a refund for the rental and fend for myself to find a rental in Napa. On a Saturday. To return to LA. Needless to say, I ended up paying more than double I initially paid for the rental car for my trip and 699 Rent a Car was unapologetic. They refunded my rental cost and left me stranded 500 miles from home and out an additional $300+ for a new rental from Avis. The whole experience was a nightmare!!
