About Cheese Melt Cafe

Cheesemelt Cafe gets its name from its fantastically gooey flagship: the grilled cheese sandwich. But this gourmet creation isn't exactly what Mom used to make. The cheese, for starters, is definitely a step up, with varieties that include horseradish cheddar, mild havarti, and chipotle pepper jack. Throw in some roasted turkey or shaved prosciutto and wedge it all between two hearty slices of sourdough or marble rye, and you'll see why everyone's so excited about this new addition to Madison's dining scene. The cafe also serves healthy salads, steamy cups of soup, and throwback sides of applesauce with a splash of cinnamon.

The image used for the groupon photo is this - https://img.grouponcdn.com/deal/mcsZMLjZCmhtmpjY3N1gsw/IMAGE_cheese-melt-cafe-700x420/v1/t440x300.jpg which has the following: a pretty, "rustic" wood table, an actual ceramic/pottery plate and bowl, and soup with a sprig of parsley in it. All and all, you think maybe it will be like Potbelly Sandwiches, who also have a restaurant at the West Towne Mall. It's all good! What you actually get is a paper tray for your sandwich and a paper bowl for your soup, served in a loud screaming food court at the mall. It's one thing to have burger king or mcdonalds have false advertising because everyone's heard of them and know what to expect - wax paper. But Cheesemelt cafe doesn't have name recognition, so people look at the picture and assume it will be truthful and honest because hey, we don't know any better. The food wasn't horrible, but it wasn't that great either. The hard boiled eggs in the caesar salad smelled kind of bad. Not really recommended.

Both times I've been there there was a line of 5-6 people ahead of me, and the sandwiches were super super greasy. The cheese/meat seems decent quality, but the bread just seems soaked with butter or oil or something.

Excellent -- very fresh as everything is prepared while you are waiting

East side location - had a hard time understanding Spanish speaking employee, and he didn't use food safety gloves to prepare our food. He handled the cash and coins, then went right back and touched the bread and cheese.
