I enjoying taking classes at the Urban Yoga Foundation. I wish there was an easier way to sign up for classes besides the sign up sheets at the studio; maybe an online sign up sheet.

About

I received my training as a Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition's cutting-edge Health Coach Training Program.
During my training, I studied over 100 dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods with some of the world's top health and wellness experts.
My teachers included Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. Deepak Chopra, leader in the field of mind-body medicine; Dr. David Katz, Director of Yale University's Prevention Research Center; Dr. Walter Willett, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; Geneen Roth, bestselling author and expert on emotional eating; and many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities.
My education has equipped me with extensive knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and preventive health.
Drawing on these skills and my knowledge of different dietary theories, I work with clients to help them make lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results.

Holistic Lifestyle 7 Day Cleanse & Detox Program

I practice a holistic approach to health and wellness, which means that I look at how all areas of your life are connected.
Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? As we work together, we will look at how all parts of your life affect your health as a whole.
My approach is not to dwell on calories, carbs, fats, and proteins
It is not to create lists of restrictions or good and bad foods. Instead, I work with my clients to create a happy, healthy life in a way that is flexible, fun and rewarding.

Bio-individuality
The concept of bio-individuality is that each person has unique food and lifestyle needs. One person's food is another person's poison, and that's why fad diets tend to fail in the long run. Working on the principle of bio-individuality, I'll support you to make positive changes that are based on your unique needs, lifestyle, preferences, and ancestral background. I use a personalized, holistic approach to ensure that you will have great success!
Primary Food
It's easy to overlook all of the things that contribute to our sense of nourishment and fulfillment. It's not just the food we eat, but all of the other factors present in our daily lives. Healthy relationships, a fulfilling career, regular physical activity and a spiritual awareness are essential forms of nourishment. When these "primary foods" are balanced, what you eat becomes secondary. I will support you in achieving all of your goals, from eating the right foods for your body to living an inspired, fulfilling life.
Integrative Nutrition Plate
The Integrative Nutrition Plate emphasizes the importance of local and organic produce, whole grains, high-quality proteins, plant-based fats, and water. It shows you how a plate should appear at mealtime and emphasizes the importance of proportions and portion size. To complete the picture, the plate is surrounded with lifestyle factors that create optimal health: relationship, career, physical activity and spirituality. I'll introduce you to some of the healthiest foods on the planet and teach you how to find what's healthiest for your unique body!

Bonnie Lopez
Bonnie Lopez graduated from the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences in 2010, after pursuing her life- long vision of becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist. Her practice consists of modalities that include Swedish and Shiatsu Massage as well as Reflexology, Deep Tissue Massage and Trigger Point therapy. Bonnie is certified in Pre and Peri-natal Massage. She is currently attending the Soma Psyche Institute and is completing the program for Associate Polarity Practitioners. Born and raised in New York City, Bonnie has gained a priceless understanding and appreciation of the knowledge and experiences that different cultures and individuals from all walks of life have to offer. Respecting the physical body, spirit and energy that we as a people are made of is of much importance to Bonnie in her practice. She is an avid believer of the Holistic approach to healing and strives to bring positivity and awareness to each of her clients.

Our Yoga Program

Hatha Yoga is the basis of all Yoga systems.
The word hatha is a compound of the words ha and tha meaning sun and moon, the word "hatha" means forceful. It is a strong practice done for purification, a preparatory stage of physical purification that the body practices for higher meditation. Hatha represents opposing energies: hot and cold (fire and water, following similar concept as yin-yang), male and female, positive and negative.
Hatha yoga attempts to balance mind and body via physical postures or "asanas"
purification practices, controlled breathing, and the calming of the mind through relaxation and meditation. Asanas teach poise, balance and strength and are practiced to improve the body's physical health and clear the mind in preparation for meditation.

classes combine yoga and play to help get mom in shape while strengthening the bond between mother and child. We flow with movement and dynamic postures while creating a calm playful environment for babies and new walkers. Learn to help your baby grow strong and attentive, promote sleep and aid in digestion.
Me and Baby Yogi
classes bring you and your child together to learn animated poses, art, music, fun and breathing exercises. Help children build body awareness, coordination and motor skills. Bond with your child and learn the yoga song to sing at home. Dads and caregivers welcome.
Urban Yoga Kids
classes bring fun and inspiration to the young mind of a child. We will dance, breathe, go-inside and sing exercising social and motor skills while we learn about simple yoga postures. Kids learn respect for themselves and each other creating lasting friendships. Yoga Brings Fun and Inspiration to the Young Mind of a Child.
Urban Yoga Youth Movement
classes bring middle school children together to share in the experience of a full yoga practice while honoring their artistic selves. They participate in art, music and play games like "Math on the Mat" and "The Meditation Game". They go-inside, learn breathing exercises, create their own poses and participate in partner yoga sequences.
Urban Yoga Teens
helps teens learn how to build self-awareness and self-esteem. It helps them with issues they face each day, such as feeling self-confident, being comfortable with their changing bodies, handling academic pressure and peer-bonding.
Urban Yoga Adult
yoga classes bring the basic yoga practice to busy adults. The classes consist of breathing exercises to reduce stress, yoga postures to strengthen the body and meditation to calm the mind.
Urban Yoga Family
monthly potluck workshops will help create family bonds that lasts a lifetime. Eat good food, meditate, do poses and learn breathing exercises that you can enjoy at home.
Design Collective Events
are for Foundation House members and their guests. They will be hosted by a myriad of progressive talented artists in fashion, entertainment, beauty and wellness. Celebrating their gifts of artistry and sharing their talents.
Urban Yoga Nutrition/Wellness
offers workshops, lectures and individual health counseling. Clients will learn about how food, diet and lifestyle have a tremendous impact on their long-term health and daily living.
Urban Yoga Foundation Teacher Training
is a two-day certification program developed to create, from a traditional yoga practice, a unique style of artistic instruction to teach school-aged students yoga.
Yoga Builds Self-Awareness and Self-Esteem
Urban Yoga Foundation's Custom Yoga Workshops are geared towards community involvement. To request a custom workshop you must have a group organized and register in advance. These classes are not offered daily and are custom upon request.

Urban Holistic Girl
series consist of workshops on natural health and beauty and ideas helping young girls discover their own inner beauty and strength. Through journaling; making tea and creating home-beauty treatments, this program instills empowering and invaluable tools to honor our ancestors and to actually produce products and support girls in their quest for natural beauty.
Urban Warrior
series helps boys feel strong and connected. We do poses that strengthen their active minds and bodies. They will understand the importance of taking care of themselves and the community they serve.
The Yoga Gallery
fuses yoga, art, music and the spoken word into a production. It gives young minds the understanding of putting together a full music/movement production as they learn how to honor themselves holistically.
