Mount Pleasant Acupuncture’s owner Pamela Rhoades found her calling after a journey that took her out of the corporate world and into the healing arts. After 14 years immersed in the stress of a desk job, she left to work for a decade as a massage therapist while simultaneously caring for her ill mother. As she took her mother to the doctors, she noticed how little time Western medical professionals spent with their patients—they just prescribed medication and moved on. Eventually, she underwent her own acupuncture sessions, found a connection in the attentiveness of the process, and earned her license.

Though people generally come to her seeking relief for chronic pain—often after trying Western medicine and wizard spells—Pamela points to myriad other disorders acupuncture can ameliorate: IBS, anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, and recurring health issues such as sinus infections and UTIs. She performs longer, more intensive sessions in a private room, laying patients on a massage table so that she can access both the front and back of their bodies at the same time. To supplement her acupuncture treatments, Pamela can advise clients on herbs and supplements, including 3,000-year-old Chinese formulas, more contemporary blends, and modern glucosamine, fish oil, and Flintstones vitamins.
