The Frenchaletta was very tasty and almost enough for two. The quality of the cold cuts on this sandwich and the hot sausage on the poboy were much better than expected. They offer both beer and soft drinks in frozen mugs which are great on a hot day. We got unsolicited recommendations to check out their specials from folks ranging from other travelers to cabbies.

The food was awesome, the service...not so much. Well, it was quick, but our waitress was a bit rude. Definitely not what I'm used to. When we arrived (2 couples with 2 babies) and requested 2 high chairs, she said, "I don't think we have 2 but we'll see", as if we were such a huge inconvenience. When she first came for our order and we ordered just our appetizer first, she said "look, whatever ya order it's gonna take a while so you should order now". We're not idiots, nor do we live under a rock...we know it's not immediate, isn't it like that everywhere? We were enjoying each others' company, feeding our kids, and having a beer. We didn't find that it was very much of a wait for our food once we ordered. It was the perfect pace. The waitress was just having a bad day or something. I feel bad complaining cause the meal was very good, but I couldn't NOT speak up in this venue, especially after dropping $100 cash on a meal there.

This was my once a week regular place but since Katrina they no longer take credit cards. That might be ok if the prices were low but the cost has increased steadily and cash is inconvenient. Also $14 plus for spagetti with 2 sausages is too much. Good spagetti but other places offer a similar meal for far less. As a result, even though I love Luizza's (been going there for 20 years or so) It's now a 3 or 4 times a year place instead of once or twice a week place.

Keep using those signature "goldfish bowl" beer goblets! They are a trademark of the place!

Appreciated the coupon as it enticed me to come in from Kenner for a meal with a family member.

From Our Editors

A two-story white building stands on a tree-lined corner with "Liuzza's" painted in green block letters over the entrance's red, white, and green striped awning. Since 1945, these colors of the Italian flag have indicated Liuzza's Restaurant & Bar's Italian influences, which the staff complements by adding other flavors from the community's melting pot, serving a menu also brimming with Louisianan and Cajun fare. Inside the kitchen, chefs prepare signature Frenchuletta sandwiches piled high with Italian meats and seasonings, stir steamy pots of Cajun andouille gumbo, and layer french bread poorboys with deep-fried seafood. Sips of beer from frosted schooners, wine by the glass, and signature cocktails from the full bar accompany entrees. Stools host patrons as they watch games lighting up the behind-the-bar TVs. The collection of framed photos and artwork, meanwhile, showcases cartoons by Bunny Matthews salvaged after Hurricane Katrina's eight feet of flood waters engulfed the restaurant.
