"You have been convicted of a crime you did not commit." So starts the story behind Prison Break Race, a 5K that pits participants against 15 obstacles and a crowd of prison guards. There's nothing fake about the obstacles and the adrenaline of the race. As runners sprint along the course, scaling structures and lifting heavy objects, their primary objective is to dodge the guards, attempting to avoid getting all of their flags on their belts stolen. Those that make it with at least one flag avoid a final challenge: a mud pit at the end. Everyone is then rewarded with a beer. But the consolation prize is nothing to sneeze at; all participants can head to the after-party to guzzle, gobble, and enjoy drinks, BBQ, and live music from a DJ.
