A great trip, thought the boat was nice and the guides took us to the whales and dolphins. I like how they respected the whales and dolphins, being sure not to stress them out after following them to view them. I have recommended this trip to friends.

This was an awesome experience!!! Would do it again. Take a light jacket with you because it does get a little chilly out there.

Ranger 85 has a wonderful crew but the boat itself has limited seating. It's more of a fishing vessel.

Great trip, everyone very nice and helpful, respectful, and informative about the whales, wildlife. Got to see about 20 whales, were all over the place. If you have problems with sea sickness, take something before, I was nauseous for the entire trip but still had a very good time, worth the price. Do wear sunscreen, and bring layers, gets cold, then hot, then cold again.

I paid $100 for a groupon for 4. My friends couldn't go, so they just took it for one. I had called and left a message the previous day, which they acknowledged at the desk. Also I felt like they chased the one whale and her calf that we did see. This is a fragile time for the animals, so I felt it was not necessary.

Went whale watching on 3/16/2016. Saw 2 different whales. multiple sightings on each. And many common dolphins. The 3 of us had a great time. Will return next year. thanks. Oh they had a great selection of food for purchase on the boat as well.

Each boat is independently operated. We took the Constitution, and the family crew was excellent. Fun times!

From Our Editors

Captain Frank has navigated Californian waters for more than 30 years, earning his 100-Ton Captain's license in 1980 and consequently became the youngest person to do so at the time. After working for the next 19 years chartering boats and educating students aboard the Channel Islands Marine Floating Lab, he purchased the 85-foot Ranger 85, the very ship he worked on as a teenager. Along with a sister vessel, the Coral Sea, Captain Frank helms his Ranger 85 to carry visitors on scenic tours around Channel Islands National Park and National Marine Sanctuary, allowing them to glimpse rare species of animals and stretches of untamed Californian landscapes where there are two distinct ecosystems. On some trips, passengers may even occasionally spot up to five different types of whales. He also embarks on private charters and bookings for groups or special occasions, such as corporate events or graduation parties for the family harbor seal.
