About Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden
Privately commissioned by Charles and Ellamae Storrier Stearns in the 1930s, the Japanese garden that bear their name are actually the creation of Kinzuchi Fujii, a landscape architect who designed gardens all over Southern California before World War II. Storrier Stearns is the only work of his that survives to this day, and it's been faithfully restored to its original beauty.
Visitors walk among placid ponds and brilliant greenery that's planted to achieve a layered, lush effect. Stone-lined paths keep strollers from going astray, and flashes of colorful flowers are meant to surprise once spotted. Nonhuman visitors to the garden can be glimpsed too, in the form of breathtaking great egrets and the snow-white resident cat.
