The Couch Tomato Cafe's two locations have made locals very happy, thanks to casual storefronts flush with gourmet pizza, craft salads, and tasty sandwiches. Following the success of the café, business partners and college buddies Craig Mosmen and Michael Cassano expanded their plant-themed empire with The Couch Tomato Bistro. Situated alongside the café's first location—in the Manayunk district among an array of boutiques, salons, and nightclubs—the comfortable yet formal dining space surrounds diners with loft seating, cut-stone walls, hardwood floors, modern lighting fixtures, and a handsome bar.
The bistro’s dinner menu is filled with thin-crust, New York–style gourmet pizza creations, often topped with San Marzano sauce, fresh mozzarella, and antibiotic-free meats. (The crust, like the restaurant's sandwich bread, is available in organic wheat and gluten-free forms.) Produce is ordered and prepared daily and used to cover pizzas, fill salads served with housemade dressings and rolls, and add splashes of color to otherwise lackluster chef uniforms. Gourmet small plates encourage sharing, while an intentionally limited menu of specialty pizzas, salads, wraps, paninis, and housemade soups allows The Couch Tomato Bistro’s cooks to maintain a high level of quality.
