About Mathnasium

More than three decades ago, educator Larry Martinek set out on a mission to develop a curriculum that would radically change the traditional approach to teaching math. Noting a "disconnect between students' basic skills training and the curriculum they [must] master in the years to come," Larry created an original teaching method designed to turn students into miniature mathematicians capable of thinking critically to solve problems. His approach, which he describes as the cultivation of number sense, strives to sharpen students’ math instincts, rather than drill them with repetitive, memory-based exercises or force them to blackmail accountants to crunch the numbers. Soon after students began using Larry's method, their test scores began to rise. In the spring of 2002, Larry's dream came true. Peter Markovitz and David Ullendorff, leaders in the education industry, made Larry and his curriculum the driving force of Mathnasium. Larry introduced his curriculum as the Mathnasium Method.

Today, Mathnasium centers can be found throughout the world. Informed by Larry's visionary innovations, the program's tutors give personalized coaching that focuses on bolstering critical thinking through written materials and mental math, forsaking many of the teaching tools found in a traditional classroom. In addition, the tutors also focus on boosting students' enthusiasm for the subject, helping them overcome a lack of confidence in the classroom or their innate fear of prime numbers.

The Groupon is a huge savings from what they charge in reality, I think for a group tutoring service the fees are a rip-off. My daughter might have really benefited from their service, but the cost is so astronomical that the 3 rating was an easy decision.

My daughter struggles with Math. Mathnasium's assessment showed us what she needs. She feels comfortable with the process and instructors. We look forward to her growth and comprehension over time.

We homeschool & my daughter has sensory issues as well as focusing issues and is vaccine injured. From the moment we walked in, I was nervous about how she would handle it and how well they would except her sometimes odd behavior as she gets very nervous. Lindsay, the location director immediately made us feel at home and treated her as though she was the most important child in the world. I instantly felt calm and happy to be there. My little girl whispered to me that she wanted her to come help her and she actually had questions for her and felt comfortable asking them. This means everything to me. The only downfall is the cost as I am a single mother with no monetary assistance. All we have done is an assessment so far and I will do anything to try to figure out how to make the monthly payment so my child can receive the help she so deserves in this positive environment. They have a stamp card system where they earn toys and candy which is definitely her love language! Lyndsey made us feel important & I love everything Mathnasium has to offer. Thank you.

My daughter loves this! She does not think a hour is enough each day and unhappy with summer hours (closed Friday - Sunday)! We are to new to judge if this is helping her, but the child loves it!
