I took the class to get a basic knowledge of the terms of photography and basic use of my camera without relying on "Auto". Sam, provided just that! With amount of information in such a short time, Sam was able to deliver in a way that left me feeling confident enough to make adjustments to my camera settings AND confidence in taking RAW images to later edit (which he provided basic editing tools and techniques). Thank you Sam! My money was well spent on this Groupon!

It was a great class for beginners. Learnt a lot about the basics of photography. The class was full!! It was good to practice what was taught. Wish he had time to critique everyone's pictures but that's unreasonable to expect since there were so many people!

Great overall class for beginners. Highly recommend it to anyone. He uses a projector with slides to help guide you, and when it comes time to do basic Adobe Photoshop Lightroom he will use student images to show the basic functions . It is not a traditional Photoshop portion of the class, as most people will not need Photoshop to adjust their images. Lightroom is faster to learn. (In this context, Photoshop is more for advanced users. Google it.) He goes over aperture and shutter speed in easy to understand detail with simple analogies for you to relate an image with what a number represents on your camera. These are a couple of the basics to capture the story that you want your audience to view. *Pro Tips: -Make sure that you can change your camera mode to A, M or S (Meaning that it needs to have the ability to have manual options.) -Get there early, wear comfortable clothing as you will be outside shooting to learn the basics of photography. -There is a small "lunch" break, so you cna place an order with the restaurant next door or go to Starbucks. - Read your manual to know where your buttons/menus are.. (He will be able to briefly help you, but it slows down the class.)

From Our Editors

Beaux Arts Photography's Sam Anise captures bold, lively photos of high-school seniors, families, children, and weddings. During each shoot, he anticipates moments, reacting to the personalities and actions of his subjects to create honest portraits entrenched in the styles of photojournalism and fashion. His laid-back, engaging personality puts models at ease while enlivening them like a squirt gun filled with hot fudge. In addition to flexing his own photography muscles, Anise teaches classes that elucidate camera anatomy, proper technique, and editing in Photoshop.
