Community Cycling Center, Portland

The Community Cycling Center in Portland, Oregon started twenty years ago when Brian Lacy began teaching children with broken bikes how to fix those bikes. Brian opened a riding school where he showed kids how to ride and how to fix those rides so that they could keep on riding. Over the years, The Community Cycling Center has morphed into a nonprofit organization whose mission is to build a healthy environment where all people can put their bicycles to use to stay happy, healthy, and connected. The Community Cycling Center now operates as a bike shop that focuses on refurbished bikes and promotes safe riding for riders of all ages. Their programs helps encourage kids of all ages to use the bicycle to get where they are going – be it school, work, the market, wherever. Exploration and community ties are alive and well at The Community Cycling Center.
