How Does Microdermabrasion Work?
A gentle suction with very fine diamond microcrystals is applied to the skin surface that gently exfoliate dead cells from the skin, exposing new, healthy layer of skin cells. This skin polishing technique smoothes fine lines and wrinkles and fades scars and skin discoloration. It also stimulates circulation, collagen production and healthy cell renewal. What Is The Difference Between Diamond Microdermabrasion And Regular Crystal Microdermabrasion?
The older method of microdermabrasion involved crystal beads that blew onto the skin, scraping off dead cells from the skin surface. People often breathed in htese crystals which caused adverse health issues. The diamond crystals are very powerful and do not come in a powder form. They are attached to a handpiece and do not come off the handpiece. Therefore, we do not breathe in anything that could potentially be harmful for us. How Long Does A Microdermabrasion Treatment Take?
The length of time a treatment takes can depend upon the area being treated and the condition of the skin. Most full facial microdermabrasion treatments take 40 to 50 minutes. Other areas will vary
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
You will see improved results after each treatment but for best, long lasting results, we recommend a minimum of six treatments every 2-4 weeks. To maintain fresh, youthful-looking skin we highly recommend treatments every month following the six treatments
Are There Any Risks Involved?
Microdermabrasion is generally safe when done properly. We perform very high levels of sanitization and use disposable tips for each client in order to prevent any cross contamination or other chances of infection. Your health and safety is very important to us so we may choose not to work on clients with severe acne or infectious sores in order to prevent other areas from getting infected. If we feel we can work around the areas, we will continue the procedure. The point of microdermabrasion is to give you healthy, smooth, beautiful skin that you will love, not to spread infection. Please speak to one of our expert estheticians if you have any concerns.
How Do I Care For My Skin After A Microdermabrasion Treatment?
Because microdermabrasion treatment peels dead cell layers of the skin, your skin may be sensitive to sun exposure and hot water and may continue to peel after the treatment. We advice you continue to moisturize your skin and use sunscreen to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun for at least 24 hours. It is also a good idea to avoid wearing any kind of makeup or foundation and let your skin breathe for the first 24 hours. Continue with a regular daily skincare routine (cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing) with healthy-for-your-skin natural products and come back to see us regularly for continued skincare solutions!

Cancel my appointment?
Please notify The Spa a minimum of 24 hours in advance for most appointments should you need to cancel or re-schedule to avoid a 50% charge for the service. All no-show appointments will be charged at full value. A 48 hour notice is required for any large appointments like body treatments and facials. Any special offer appointments (Groupons, etc.) will be considered redeemed unless notified within 48 hours of service

Physical, Medical or Allergy concerns?
Upon arrival to Silk & Stone, you will complete a brief questionaire to assist the spa technicians in providing you the best possible experience and to assure your maximum safety and comfort. It is important you disclose any pertinent health conditions that may affect your spa experience, especially any allergies to foods. We use natural ingredients to make our products but some (not most) products may contain soy, gluten, and other ingredients that you may be allergic to. Please consult with your esthetician if you have any concerns prior to service
What should I bring?
We will never compromise your modesty. You will be given a gown and depending upon hte treatment, we will drape you with towels. Our therapists will only expose the portion of your body that is being treated at the time. For body treatments you are welcome to bring in a bikini or underpants. Men, however, are required to bring in underpants since our specialists are female
Bringing child in SPA?
We allow children at our spa for all services outside of the treatment rooms which include hair services, henna, threading and makeup. All waxing, facial and body treatments are provided in a room where children and friends are not allowed. You may, however, bring someone with you to watch over your child while you recieve the services. We have a very child-friendly environment and a toy/coloring section for their interests

What Is Eybrow And Facial Threading?
Threading is an ancient technique (over 5000 years old) of removing unwanted hair. It is great for eyebrow shaping as well as removing hair from the cheeks, upper lip, and chin. This technique that uses 100% cotton thread. The cotton thread is twisted and rolled along the surface of the skin entwining the hairs in the thread, which are then lifted quickly from the follicle. Where Does Threading Originate?
Threading is an ancient method of hair removal (over 5000 years old) which originated in Persia but is continued in India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, China and many other countries. It is popular with women in the Middle East and in the Persian culture where it is called Bande Abru ("Abru" means eyebrow, and "Band" is the thread). Threading the entire face is widely spread amongst Iranians, Pakistanis and Indians, but it was originally practiced when a woman was getting married or during special occasions. In ancient Persia, threading was a sign that a girl had reached adulthood and became a woman. Since it is a natural and more precise form of hair removal, it is becoming more and more popular in the western world as an alternative to waxing and tweezing
My Eyebrows Are Out Of Wack! What Can I Do?
A bad brow job is worse than a bad hair day because the brows just can't be covered! It is really important to choose an experinced threader who knows what they are doing and spends the time and effort on your brows. A quick brow job is not necessarily a great brow job. Also, if the wrong hair is pulled, often times the hair doesn't grow back, leaving you with thinned or uneven brows. The quality depends upon the artist's experince and ability to recognize what looks good from person to person and to be able to shape them properly, being careful not to take too much out. There is no book or written material that can tell you the right way to shape a persons brow because every person that walks through the door has a unique look that needs a particular shape that will be just right for them. For us, recognizing what will look best on a person and creating a great brow shape is a work of art and needs to be done properly. Kaniz, our highly experienced and qualified threader is very gentle when she threads. She not only cleans and shapes the brows but takes the time to help to provide you with the best solution for your brows and overall look. What Areas Can Be Threaded?
All facial areas including eyebrows, upper lip, chin, side burns, forehead, neck, etc. Threading can also be done anywhere else on the body but may take a long time, therefore it is usually done on the facial areas. Any hair remaining after waxing on the body are often threaded for a cleaner finish
How Long Does It Last?
The time depends from person to person but it is generally recommended to have the hair rethreaded every 3-4 weeks. Some people may have to come back earlier if their hair generally grows faster while others may take a few months before they need the areas rethreaded
Does It Hurt?
Most people are amazed when they get threaded for the first time, especially after being waxed previously. They find that it hurts much less than waxing and is easier to do but it has a lot to do with the skill of the artist. We are very gentle when we thread and may use finger pressure or a cold/warm compress to help relieve discomfort if needed
How Do I Know What Brow Shape Is Right For Me?
Our expert staff is skilled at proper brow shaping and will take a look at your brows and design a shape that is right for you. We do not over-thread brows. We only take out what's needed to give you the best shape. Your final brow shape and arch depends upon your natural brow line. It may be possible to arch further depending upon how much hair we have avaialbel to work with. Be sure to talk with one of our estheticians to see what would look best for you
What Kind Of Thread Is Used And How Is It Sanitary?
We use 100% anti-bacterial cotton thread imported from India, Pakistan and England. This is a very particular thread that is especially made for threading purposes. The threading process is very sanitary because it is only the thread that touches the skin and it is thrown away after every use. We adhere to very strict sanitary practices throughout our business to prevent any type of contaminations
Does The Hair Grow Thicker Or Thinner After Being Threaded?
The hair normally grows the same or thinner after being threaded. Some people also find that they have lesser hair than before

Why Is Threading Better That Tweezing Or Waxing?

Threading is more efficient than tweezers
because it pulls out a row of hair at a time instead of plucking them one by one. Tweezers may also not be able to take out very tiny or fine hair which threading eliminates entirely.
Waxing is another popular procedure that threading surpasses in accuracy.
Waxing requires the hair to be a certain length before it can be grasped and pulled by the wax. Threading does not require any length. If it can be seen it can be taken out. A person skilled in threading can give the brows a smooth and neat look, eliminating the tiniest pieces of hair. Threading is also very precise so when done properly, only the hair that needs to be removed is pulled. Because this is such a gentle technique, you can thread the same area multiple times whereas waxing is done only once per area to avoid any reactions.
When the eyebrows are waxed a layer of skin is pulled up with the wax.
This can be painful and bad for the health of the skin around your eyes. Waxing may also break the skin since the hair is pulled against the direction of the hair growth. Threading does not disturb the skin at all and can be done just as quickly as waxing. Because the finest of the hair are taken out, threaded hair will generally take a longer time to come out again than waxed or plucked hair.

Sugaring Vs. Waxing

What is sugar waxing and how is it different from regular waxing?
The wax used in sugaring is traditionally handmade with all natural "edible" ingredients. The mix is usually composed of 3-4 of the following ingredients: sugar, honey, lemon juice, vinegar and water. Most waxes sold in stores contain chemicals, oils, dyes, preservatives, fragrance and other ingredients that may be toxic or cause allergic reactions. The result is rashes, breakouts, irritations and reddened skin that can last for days. Sugaring, on the other hand, is a gentle wax that is easy to apply and remove. It is water soluble so it will wash off easily with water, whereas, the chemical waxes are tough to take off and if they fall on the wrong hairs and the hairs accidently get pulled- well there goes a bald spot! With sugar waxing, you can remove any excess wax easily before pulling. It also washes off the skin right away so that you don't have to pull and tug on the excess wax to remove it, thus irritating your skin
Types of Sugar Waxes
There are two types of sugar waxes: The Persian and the Arabic. Both are wonderful and very effective waxes for hair removal. The ingredients in both waxes are the same natural ingredients (sugar, honey, water, lemon juice, vinegar, etc.). The difference is in the making. The Persian wax is made thin like a soft wax and a fabric or paper strip is used to remove the hair and the wax from the skin. This wax is gentler than the traditional chemical waxes we buy in stores or that are used in most salons, but the Arabic wax is even gentler. The Arabic wax is made thicker than the Persian wax. It does not require the use of a fabric or paper strip for removal. It is rolled into a ball and applied against the grain of the hair and removed along the grain of the hair (opposite from regular waxes), making the hair come out smoothly without breaking the skin. This results in much less pain than any other type of wax.

Are Henna and Indigo Permanent Colors?
The henna we carry is body art quality (BAQ) and is of the best quality out in the market. Both the henna and the indigo we carry are permanent colors that last as your hair grows out. The color may fade slightly through time. In order to continue to achieve healthy and conditioned results we recommend having the color applied every 1-3 months on the full hair. The roots should be touched up every 2-4 weeks if they are light or if the hair is grey. Hair consultations and strand tests are free and recommended before final application
Does Henna, Indigo and Other Herbal Hair Colors Cover Grey Hair?
Yes they cover grey hair very well. The grey hair, when dyed may be lighter than the rest of your hair, therefore, depending upon your hair color you nay need to do more than one application. Our clients often like the different color shades they get in their hair. It tends to look more natural. Again, we recommend you come in and talk to us about the best solution for your hair
Can Henna Be Dyed over Chemically Colored Hair?

What if I dont like the color after applying the henna/indigo. Can I dye a chemical color over it?
Doing a strand test before coloring your entire hair is the best way to prevent dissappointment. If the color you get is not one you like, a possible alternative could be reapplying another shade to change the affects. It is often difficult to dye hennaed hair with a chemical color because the henna creates a barrier on the hair shaft, closing the shaft so foreign particles cannot easily enter the hair. This is why the hair becomes so shiny and healthy when it is hennaed. We love the idea of eliminating chemicals, toxins and allergens from our lives. This is why we have developed healthier means of hair care and skincare. But if you simply do not like the results, we would suggest you consult a hair colorist who can do a strand test for you before using any chamical color on your entire hair
Is There Such Thing as Too Much Henna/indigo?
Unlike chemical dye which is more and more damaging for your hair the more you apply it, our natural hair colors are very healthy for the hair and can be applied over and over, rejuvenating the hair and making it shinier, stronger and healthier the more you use them! The cost of this in-depth hands-on course is $499-$599 depending upon location. This is a small class to give you more one-on-one attention and due to our busy schedule, the space and classes are very limited. So register early to hold your spot! Classes are on a first come first serve basis.

Bridal Henna (Mehndi) Services

Weddings, Bachelorette Parties, Mehndi & Sangeet Nights, Anniversaries, etc.
Traditionally, brides adorn their hands and feet with breathtaking patterns that mimic the embroidery in their bridal gowns & jewelry. The palms are decorated with the most intricacy because they come out the darkest. The backs of the hands can be just as detailed but usually tend to be a little more subtle on the hand and more detailed on the arm. Most brides decorate their arms to the elbow so that the henna can show through the bangles which often cover half of the forearm. The feet are similarly decorated and can cover as far as the knees. These fine-detailed patterns can take 2-6 hours depending upon intricacy and coverage. Today women of all cultures are adopting the beauty of the henna body painting and Indian rituals (wearing saris, bindis, etc.) in their weddings as well as other special events. The reddish-brown color of the henna not only looks good with traditional costumes but is quite gorgeous next to a white or off white wedding gown. And the designs are not limited to hands andfeet but, depending on the dress, may flow well on an upper back, chest, arm, etc.

It is recommended to schedule a free 30 minute consultation for all bridal events at the Silk & Stone Spa where you can preview hundreds of bridal henna patterns, get a time estimate, receive a sample design and address any other concerns. Bridal henna should be scheduled 2-3 days before the wedding for best results. Book a henna party at our location or have us come to yours! Parties of up to 25 people can be booked at our location. Catering services are available from nearby restaurants and tea is complimentary for all guests. We also travel to your location for henna services for Mehndi nights, sangeets, bachelorette parties, anniversaries, etc. Our out-of-studio rates are $90/hour plus a small travel fee depending upon the distance of travel. Designs recieved at our studio vary in price depending upon the work or you can schedule your event by the hour at $100 for the first hour and $90 for each additional hour (this can be broken down into 15 min. increments.
