About Captain John Boats

Discover the great whales of the North Atlantic during a four-hour Provincetown whale watching adventure that departs only in July and August. Marine mammal sightings include humpback, finback, minke, right, and pilot whales. These majestic creatures can be up to 70 feet long and weigh 65 tons! As we depart MacMillan Wharf, your naturalist, a professional marine biologist, provides an informative description of the whales you’re likely to see as well as commentary on the day’s activities and is available to answer any questions you might have. This program has proven to be of such outstanding educational value that it now serves as part of the science curriculum in many schools. Enjoy the cruise on one of our two open decks or lounge in our climate-controlled cabin. Your comfort is assured with complete galley service offering food and alcoholic beverages.

The crew and the captain did an excellent job. So there weren't a large number of whales. We were able to see a fin whale, a minke- whale, at least three humpbacks and we had a bonus of coming across a pod of white-sided dolphins. I would say at least 40 or 50. The trip was amazing. And the person he gave the lecture about the whales etc. Was knowledgeable and entertaining.

Great whale watching, crew was friendly. We went on 2nd trip of the deal and they were practically out of food so definitely bring your own. Seems strange someone did not account for that ahead of time. Revenue loss for them.

The weather was perfect, the sea was calm, and we did see whales. My issue with this provider was that the boat was never directed so that all sides could see the whales clearly. They described it as looking at a clock face (easy to understand) but never adjusted the bow of the boat outside of 11 o’clock and 2 o’clock. Those of us at four, five and 6 o’clock we’re unable to view the whales without hanging over the side of the boat. Another cruise directly across from us did a full 360 so all could see the whales.

Although we departed on time, we were expecting a longer trip than 3 hours. We did see 2 juvenile humpback whales and a pod of dolphins. Don't expect to hear anything that is being said over the audio system if you stay in the main cabin. We could actually hear the marine biologist from the Dolphin fleet better than our own guide whenever we were near the Dolphin fleet boat. That severely diminished the total experience. Also, ambiance would be better if the trash can was not in the vicinity of passenger seating since patrons kept coming up and depositing trash during the entire cruise. Maybe secure it in a less conspicuous location. We had a much better time on our last whale watch with Dolphin fleet as it was a longer outing, much better audio, and ambience was better.
