We had a class of 5. Class was supposed to start at 4:30p, everyone was ready except for Peter because he scheduled students before our class so our class was delayed for a bit over 10min. Peter spent approx 10 min told us about the basic then we went to the water. We told Peter our heights a week before the class, and 4 out of 5 boards were 9ft with 1 board was Shorter. Our range was from 5'3" to 5'10", 2 ladies in the low end, so ended up with one lady 5'3" 115lb carrying a 9 ft board out into the waves for 1 hr 35 min (not 2 hr water time, we got into water 5p out at 6:30p without delay) so her entire goal for the class was getting the board out. Life guard will be gone around 6pm in Rockaway so keep that in mind for the 4:30pm 2 hr class. I would not recommend this class to anyone. It would be better if you rent a correct size board and watch a few YouTube videos for surf instructions and schedule your own time with the wave table online then gambling if Peter would get a decent board for your size and follow his schedule. Was expecting less chaos with learning in a class but it was definitely not as expected for this class.

Thanks for joining us Simon & Snow bunny! It sounds like a private lesson might be the best option for you. This is a highly discounted group class, so you must be able to carry the board on your own. Beginners learn on 9ft foam boards around the world because it’s easier to balance on a bigger board. If you’d like a private lesson, the instructor can help you carry the board. Check out our website for private lesson options. Thanks!
