At Ella's American Bistro, executive chef Chad Jajczyk accents time-tested American dishes with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Cooks build the Ella's Classic burger by loading a juicy patty with cheddar and pecan-smoked bacon, and bathe their grilled strip steak in a bacon-jalapeno marmalade and red-wine reduction.
The eatery takes its name from Ella Anne Widener Wetherill, the late matriarch of the Wetherill family. She was a passionate equestrian and social fixture with an impeccable sense of style that is reflected in the restaurant's decor. Floor-to-ceiling windows make for a bright dining room peppered with family heirlooms and bouquets of domesticated flowers that don't have the skills to survive the outside world. Behind a 22-foot sycamore bar, bartenders serve local and national craft beers as well as specialty cocktails made with house-infused liquors.
