Black History Museum, Richmond

The Black History Museum shares inspirational stories from yesteryear and today. Stories that offer a learning opportunity for all people, all ages. Founded in 1981, the museum demonstrates that Black history is much more than just a handful of dates and historic events. It features interactive exhibitions that reveal critical narratives and artifacts detailing a range of eras in an engaging, insightful manner.

• The Building: The museum is located in the newly renovated Leigh Street Armory which was originally constructed in 1895 by and for Black Militia
• Don't Miss: Museum highlights include a 35 multi-paneled timeline, 13 foot prototype of tennis great Arthur Ashe, interactive games for children and an array of fun events.
• Special Programs: Documentary screenings, book signings, plus wine, wings, and jazz every first Friday.
