This place is terrific! I could spend hours on end poking through the selections. Was absolutely thrilled to get CD's of my favorite "cassette tapes" of the 80's. Had a great time cranking them up and dancing around the living room - great memories! I will DEFINITELY go back to Record Archives and the employees were efficient and kind. I recommend this place highly and am so glad that Groupon gave me the opportunity to check them out (I've often heard of Record Archive, but had never been there).

loved the way the dvds were labeled. loved the 'old school' gifts. will definitely return again! the cds were arranged in a way that made it difficult to figure out what was where but the selection was great!

A great place! I have been going there since the 1960's when I used to buy all my albums and 45's from them. They were located on Elmwood and Mt. Hope Aves. then. They happened to be having a buy 2 used for $5 each, get the 3rd free week so my groupon coupon were worth ever more! They are very large and also have used DVD's for $5 each! A great place!!

They have a wide selection of music for all tastes available. I like classical, space music, new age music, rock music, pop music and more, yet I found some choices from every genre that I looked for.

Better lighting in the store would be helpful, as would racks that were a bit more loosely packed. It's hard to rifle through CDs when you can't move them to see covers/titles. I bought far less than I would have liked to, simply because the CDs were packed so tightly. Store personnel are wonderful and helpful and welcoming.

From Our Editors

After passing through double doors located at the bottom quarter of a massive storefront record, patrons emerge into Record Archive's quirky shop whose red and yellow walls disappear behind shelves of used CDs, DVDs, vinyl, and cassettes. A 35-year veteran of the Rochester music scene, the shop judiciously buys and sells tunes and movies in most formats. In the shade of bikes dangling decoratively from the ceiling, clients can special order hard-to-find works to complete collections or destroy the traces of their brief solo jazz career. Despite the music specialty advertised by the store’s name and its eclectic calendar of in-house performances, Record Archive also takes a stance against mass-production with caches of vintage clothing, unique furniture, quirky toys, and incense.
