This was my first experience hiring a moving company. I had high hopes that everything would go smoothly, and with moving already being stressful, this experience did not make things any easier. I scheduled an appointment for 2PM on a Thursday. Since I had a 2 hour Groupon deal (our new house was only 4 miles away), my husband and I brought all of the furniture down to the first floor beforehand (drawers out, things all broken down) for a quick and easy move. 2:15 rolls around, I call wondering where they are. The representative I spoke to informed me that I did not have a 2PM appointment (although the email that I received said I had a 2PM appointment) and that it was an arrival time frame of 2PM to 4PM. I said fine, and we packed some more during that time. 4:30 rolls around, still no truck. I called again. The representative let us know that the previous appointment ran long and that they will be there soon. It would have been nice if they could have informed us of this instead of me calling. While all of this is happening, my husband's family, who drove down from PA, had been helping us with the move and we promised that we would get dinner with them to thank them for helping us (Even with the truck coming "soon" past 4:30, we could get a 7:00-8:00 dinner still) Two hours pass by, still no truck. I call again at 6:00PM. We let the representative know the truck had still not come. They said they couldn't do anything about it. At this point, my frustration levels were high, I asked them if they could give me more specifics (where was this other job, are they unloading/still packing?). We had to cancel dinner plans (family ended up driving back to PA), and the weather was looking like it was going to rain. I asked if I could reschedule, they said the next available date was next week Saturday. I asked to speak with someone about this in more detail, and the representative told me I was free to file a complaint. Instead of trying to appease the situation, I guess it would be easier for the representative to not speak with me, and instead, just have me file a complaint. Interesting business model. Long story short, the movers arrived at 7:30PM. Instead of coming in and loading the truck right away, they said they had to wrap EVERYTHING (even though some things did not need to be wrapped). They charged for tape ($75! for packaging tape). It ended up raining, which also ended up costing us an extra hour of moving time ($139). Mind you, it did not rain from 2-6PM when they were supposed to come. In the end, our moving experience was supposed to be done by 4:00PM, but it ended up being done close to 11:00. I thought the Groupon would be a great deal and would save us some stress, but it ended up costing us ~$500, some dings in the furniture (even though they were "wrapped"), and half a day wasted waiting.
