About Local 212

From the meats to the produce, all of Local 212's handpicked ingredients hail from the great state of Michigan. This is by design, but it's also by necessity—chef Brian Gianola would have a hard time crafting his fresh, seasonal dishes from scratch if he had to source his ingredients from distant locales. Chef Gianola's upscale takes on American classics range from parmesan truffle pretzels paired with gouda fondue to seared walleye tossed with curried lentils and a garlic-ginger cream sauce. If you have dietary restrictions, you'll be pleased to discover Local 212's separate menu of gluten-free options.

Taking a page from Gianola's book, the restaurant's bartenders focus on wines and beers made locally in Michigan. Their cocktail list even includes a Manhattan crafted with artisanal spirits from the Great Lakes State.

Awesome food and great drinks! The bacon wrapped dates and shrimp skewers are two of my favorite appetizers. The atmosphere is chill but classy. Will definitely go again.

We were really disappointed that there was one single solitary Michigan wine option. With the coupon being for two Michigan beers or wines, we were expecting a lot more, especially with all the great possibilities from the Traverse City region. I was also disappointed there were no locally distilled spirits. Valentine Vodka and Gin is fantastic, as is Two James Spirits. Finally, the food was just "meh." There was no Okemos shrimp (which was mentioned on yelp) and really nothing that screamed "Michigan." The pizza was run of the mill. I am bummed because I really wanted to like this place. Service was great, but that's not enough to make up for everything else.

Food was disappointing. Menu is small plus they were out of pizza dough, so that made the menu tiny. Service was slow. Won't go back.
