Meet the Owner: Diane Campbell
As a kid growing up in Long Island, Diane Campbell was forbidden to eat candy. But whenever she got her hands on a couple dollars, she’d sneak away to her neighborhood’s candy shop. Its name? The Candy Store. Today, Diane keeps that childhood excitement alive at her own Candy Store in Russian Hill, where she sells a curated selection of candies from around the world, plus some local artisanal goodies. Here are a few more facts about her:
- She and her husband Brian run the shop together. In 1996, they moved from New York to San Francisco to pursue their confectionary dreams.
- She broke into the candy business at a young age. At just 10 years old, Diane began selling candy out of her locker at school. Business was good, too: she took orders at night over the phone.
- Caramel pretzels are her favorite treats in the store.
- She’s popular for more than her encyclopedic knowledge of candy. Diane is also known to be generous with samples.
