El Perol Restaurant, San Rafael

For more than two decades, the family behind El Perol Restaurant has been serving up traditional Peruvian dishes. They offer fare the way their grandparents made it—created from scratch, flavored with authentic Peruvian herbs and spices, and served up in heaping portions. In the kitchen, they craft classic seafood ceviche, fried and grilled sandwiches, and a variety of sauteed meat entrees. But their main specialty is the lomo saltado, a plate of stir-fried steak with fresh herbs and veggies like onion and cilantro. To complement these dishes, they also offer Peruvian beers such as Cusquena and Cristal in addition to Californian wines.
