The 1920s was a grand time full of flashy flappers and gangsters who broke Prohibition laws, smoked and danced all night, and generally enjoyed the freedoms of a post-Edwardian era. And for one weekend, the Grand Prix of Scottsdale attempts to replicate that carefree time before the Great Depression with its annual Roaring '20s celebration.
The stylish event celebrates Arizona-made vintage mini racers with a grand prix race, followed by several Gatsby-themed events. The Gatsby Lawn Party, for instance, embraces the spirit of the decade with wine and beer tastings that unfurl at the Scottsdale Waterfront. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in period clothing, and 1920s music helps set the scene.
