Madrid might be a long way from Seattle’s Western Avenue, but specialty food shop The Spanish Table is like stepping into a neighborhood market in Spain. The eclectic collection of pantry staples, hard-to-find wine and cookware are thoughtfully arranged for easy browsing. Great care has been taken to source paella pans in a wide range of sizes and price ranges, and nearly every ingredient needed to make the beloved traditional rice dish is supplied on the shelves. Just beyond the stacks teetering with unusual varieties of dried beans, canned sardines, jars of anchovies, salted capers and assorted olives is a deli case dedicated to imported charcuterie - including the famous Iberico ham, made from pork that feed on acorns - and a wide variety of European cheeses. The knowledgeable staff can steer you in the right direction, but they’re also adept at leaving shoppers free to explore the store.
