A New York City police officer for 20 years, Mike Musantry worked in the rubble of the World Trade Center for more than a year before moving out to the West Coast. Once there, he noticed one thing was missing—the Mister Softee ice-cream trucks he remembered from his childhood. Mike opened All American Softy to fill this void, outfitting a fleet of stainless-steel trucks with ice cream, milkshakes, malts, and waffle cones.
As they roll through the streets of Los Angeles, his trucks carry with them the croon of Frank Sinatra's voice rather than typical ice-cream bells or recordings of infants screaming. Trucks can be reserved for corporate events, birthday parties, and holiday celebrations, and the attendants manning them will attempt to enhance all get-togethers with root-beer floats, banana splits, and hot pretzels.
