As a child, Joseph Downer’s study of isshinryu karate led him to a deeper knowledge of acupuncture points, meridians, and traditional Chinese medicine. At Stratford Acupuncture & Wellness Center, Joe forgoes his martial-arts moves for the slender, precise needles of acupuncture and supplements sessions with Chinese medical massage, raindrop essential-oil techniques, and qi-gong therapy. Practitioners use tenets of Chinese medicine to diagnose and root out imbalances and can also supplement acupuncture therapy with dietary recommendations and herbal supplements.
