Shangri-La Day Spa looks like a surprisingly functional synthesis of a Victorian drawing room and a Japanese teahouse, characterized by oak armchairs upholstered in paisley prints, ornate oriental rugs, and shades that create the impression of paper wall partitions. Inside, licensed massage therapists, aestheticians, and cosmetologists weave their various specialties into a tapestry of relaxation and beautification. Trained therapists whip up nosegays of aromatic essential oils to soothe senses or enlist the tension-melting help of heated volcanic stones during massages. Organic products envelop faces during signature facials and peels, and a sea-salt polish scrubs bodies free of dead skin cells more effectively than sending in a magic school bus full of zombie hunters.
