About Stonefield Cellars Winery

Robert Wurz got an early start on his winemaking career. At age 14, he crafted his first batch of wine in his parents' basement. The California native's skills didn't remain confined to the basement though. Robert went on to earn a PhD in wine chemistry from UC Davis, eventually moving to North Carolina and beginning to experiment with the state's grapes.

At Stonefield Cellars Winery, Robert crafts wines at using estate-grown grapes and fruit from nearby vineyards. The resulting creations vary in style while still exhibiting classic varietal characteristics. Specializing in dry-red varietals and blends, the winery offers an array of options including dry whites and several sweet wines. Although the selection changes whenever small-batch productions become available, the tasting room can indulge guests with pours of toasty, barrel-aged chardonnay or bold, structured cabernet sauvignon.
