About NW BBQ and Grilling School

Smoke and fierce heat rise from a battalion of Weber gas grills and Big Green Egg smokers as barbecue docents line up in front of them, ready to wrangle rafts of raw meat into expertly grilled, smoked, and sauced feasts. In classes that range from three to seven hours, Phoenix BBQ and Grilling School's instructors impart their knowledge of sauces and marinades. They also teach students how to brine, smoke, and grill ingredients such as ribs, turkeys, chickens, peppers, pork, and veggies, all of which are provided. The three dudes in charge have been leading classes since 1998. Head honcho Stu McMullen draws upon myriad cooking classes and international travels to develop exciting recipes, while "sauce king" Eric Viken introduces sauces that can enchant palates and save accidentally overcooked meats. The barbecue experts hold classes onsite or in private backyards, enabling the family cat to finally learn to do something productive with its hunting gifts.

I hate doing a poor review but here is my experience. I have done one of their classes before and it was AWESOME, 5 stars for sure! Loved it. Because of this experience I thought I would buy a gift certificate to give to my girlfriend's dad so he and I could go for his birthday gift. I bought the gift certificate and after discussion with friends/ family ... a lot more people were interested in doing a class as well. I wrote a message to the company asking if I could use my gift certificate as credit towards a private class ... no reply. Then some time went on and I realized we were approaching the expiry date, I went online to book and there was zero availability for classes in the next 6 months ... once again I wrote them, and this time I called the contact number as well ... no reply. Now my gift certificate is expired and I have no idea how to communicate with the company other than just driving up and hoping they are open. The class is awesome but the communication is terrible, sadly.

The business is closing and class was run like it. Meat/veggies used in class were not washed but were cooked and eaten by the class. Our instructor has some health issues so he spent a lot of time telling us not to use salt in/on our food/bbq. Our instructor also was smoking while he was grilling meats. And while I understand this may be a common practice at home, it shouldn’t be in class.
