I was very excited to use my groupon as I was looking for an art class. First off I was unable to get into the website, when I telephoned and asked about times and dates I was not told the subject of my class, that I was to find an appropriate painting, or that I would be copying this painting. I thought I was attending an Abstract Acrylic Class. The first classes were a mess as only two students had picked paintings, we spent most of the time looking in books, and the wash we needed to do for the canvases wasn't attempted do to lack of time. Time is a really big problem with these classes. I find the instructor quite unprepared, always waiting until the exact time of the class start before getting out our canvases and supplies. The demonstrations or "lessons of the day" have been given 30 minutes into our session. We have only one hour to paint yet are told to start packing up at 20 minutes to the hour. The instructor doesn’t give personal attention or advice to the students. During our class other employees use their cells to talk to friends and in loud voices a few feet away from the paint room. I work in the performing arts, I'm all for laid back environments and creative spaces, but this is business that sells classes and I have come to LEARN. Although I feel the 4Cats staff are nice women I think there is a 'like it or lump it' attitude. After the second class I asked if I could pay for studio time after the class to continue working I was told the price was $25 per hour, but that she would check with the manager, i am still waiting to hear if that amount correct or if staying is possible. I don’t think I got value for money, groupon or not. I'm really disappointed, I have attended several painting classes and a one day workshop at 4Cats before and really enjoyed them. Thanks

From Our Editors

When doctors told Joey and Darryl Simon that their son Jet’s premature birth could result in learning disabilities, the couple immersed him in the world of art as a means of helping him overcome any educational obstacles. Their tutelage and care paid off, resulting in an impressive array of paintings from their child at a very young age. Jet’s talent and creativity inspired his parents to establish 4Cats Arts Studio in hopes of unleashing the inner artists of other children as well as adults. The Simons accomplish this mission through hands-on sessions in mixed media, painting, and Artist Focus classes, which concentrate on the histories and styles of certain artists, such as Picasso’s cubism and Andy Warhol’s self-portraits of soup cans.
