Most reasonable orthotics around and—even better—great care, attention, and service!
First a little background on my situation that I think would be helpful for those with serious foot/leg issues.
My body gradually and greatly reacted to medication I was taking over a period of 1.5-2 years. I ended-up with all sorts of symptoms, one of which was total body pain—it started in my upper arms, then my thighs and, gradually, it spread through all my muscles and tendons, later to ligaments and joints. Though I was sent to specialists, there was no diagnosis. I continued to exercise and my massage therapist said that my muscles were mushy, tendons tight, ligaments stretched and, also, that my muscles were stuck together. I went to someone for minor bone manipulations because my bones were turning slightly, which created pain. My mobility had been greatly compromised to say the least. My feet went flat, my ankles were swollen, and I couldn’t walk without shoes. I had trouble walking from one room to another, and stairs were next to impossible. It came to the point where I was hobbling, and I couldn’t exercise anymore.
Finally, I went to a shoe store and had orthotics made. The fellow couldn’t do the standard push-foot-into-styro-molds—my feet were too painful. So he held my feet up and took a picture of each foot (sorry, I don’t have the correct terminology here). Though I had had one adjustment to one orthotic, and the orthotics and new shoes helped to some extent, I couldn’t walk very far without pain or stand for more than 10 minutes.
Then I found a Groupon coupon for Vancouver Orthotics and I thought, what a great opportunity to get another pair of orthotics (and at a reduced rate ;) ). When I phoned, I was able to make an appointment within 3 days. Dr. Michael Horowitz had a mat that I walked on, and the computer took a picture of each foot (again, incorrect terminology). When my orthotics arrived he checked to be sure they were a good fit, and I was on my way. There was an offer of a second pair at reduced rate for up to 6 months after the fitting of the first pair and there was also an email follow-up a month or so later to see how I was doing with them. Very close to the 6-month mark, I could walk a little over 1 km and I phoned to order another pair. This time I booked an appointment for the next day. Michael reassessed my feet with the same pad, and he also had another device which measured them from a different angle. (Having two approaches gives a more accurate measurement.) He said my feet had improved and so the orthotics would change too.
The fact that there was a complete reassessment for the second pair of orthotics left me very impressed with Dr. Michael Horowitz. Perhaps someday my feet will get back to normal but, in the meantime, I am so great-full for his orthotics. For those interested, I also went on a strict regime to clean the toxins from of my body and the pain levels everywhere are way down. Though I have a ways to go yet, going wholistic is the only thing that worked for me. It is so good to be able to stand, walk, and exercise again!
