This tour was not what I was expecting at all. It was not really a tour but more a shuttle service where the bus dropped you off at one place and you were told where you would be picked up 2-3 hours later. When driving the few blocks from point A to point B, the guide would tell us what buildings were were passing, however he spoke so fast and his words were slurred, my kids totally tuned him out and the rest of the guests could only understand him by concentrating very hard. I was under the impression by the tour description that we would be receiving a guided tour of the city, meaning the guide would not only drive us to the destinations, but they would tell us about the sites as we visited them. At each site we visited we saw large groups being led by a guide, I so wanted to go join their groups to learn!! I was so disappointed that we were not offered this service as I understood from the tour description that we WOULD be offered a guided tour. The tour ended by 3:30, NOT the 5:00 advertised. I simply felt ripped off. I could have taken the Metro or a cab or a city bus for a fraction of the fare I paid. Even with the Groupon, I feel scammed.

Good day, great bus driver (Bob) - and plenty of time at each attraction to see what we had to. If you have an odd person to add ie a family of 5 like ours - it will be cheaper to buy an extra 2 x Groupons rather than pay for 1 extra on the day.

Bring Water & Snacks with you on many of the tours, especially the night and all day excursions. Drivers are pretty knowledgable. With the Groupon, you need to register your name online before prior to arrival and/or go into the sightseeing office when you arrive at Union Station (DC) to register and convert your "VOUCHER" to a Ticket.

From Our Editors

Frank Martz, Sr., started Gray Line DC, Martz Group in 1908 with a 1912 White bus and a route that took him through small mining towns in Pennsylvania. During the Great Depression, the economic collapse inspired Frank and other independent carriers to create the National Trailways Bus System. This system became part of a national network with Greyhound lines, setting schedules and fares for connecting service across the country.

Through the years, the company has passed down from father to son. Today, Frank's great grandson, Scott Henry, helms the company of more than 400 employees, 250 coaches, and one magic-pumpkin carriage. Additionally, Martz boasts a travel agency and repair operations in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida, and Washington, DC, and operates sightseeing tours in Washington, DC, such as DC After Dark and Monticello & Thomas Jefferson Country.
