Doing the two hour passes in a double-person kayak allows one to either go on a date for two hours of kayaking or on a double date (or excursion with three friends) for one hour. If you want to see nature, do the two hour trip upstream. For a shorter trip, head downstream toward the monuments.

always call or check online ahead to make sure they're open and if their hours have changed (changes frequently during seasonal/sunlight changes)...especially around heavy rain days. the trees upriver flood the potomac, and all kayaking/paddle boarding is forbidden. the life jackets there smell like bad BO, because they never wash them; i'd have some little well-intentioned ignoramus begin to fuss at me every time i walked on the dock to dunk the jacket prior to boarding, because i was committing the mortal no-no of walking on the dock without a jacket on. bring your own jacket if able. also the one or two chaps that man/woman the payment ipad systems at the end of your journey tend to get overloaded with the massive queues that form if your end is close to closing avoid finishing too close to the actual closing time. the staff is mostly very friendly though, it's just that you rarely see the same person twice and they're very young

From Our Editors

From weather-beaten docks that support rows of kayaks in a rainbow of colors, paddlers disembark onto the Potomac, threading through the bridge?s arches and taking in the lush riverside scenery. Nestled along three Potomac River locations, Boating in DC's team of water conquerors is on hand to instruct new kayakers and paddleboarders in taming the river?s gentle waves. Upon returning to shore, guests are invited to make use of the dock?s picnic tables to eat lunch and dry their hair.
