Great museum for kids! The Play/Work/Build exhibit is a must exhibit. I went with my husband and we spend most of our time reading the exhibits for adults, but I wished we had spent more time playing in the kids area. You can build things with blue styrafoam building blocks that are small, or lifesize. It made me wish I had become an engineer!

If you're bringing the kiddos, be sure to get there as soon as the museum opens to claim 'entry tickets' to one of their play spaces. It's worth it!

nice open space, beautiful building - several fun hands-on things for young kids, but we were also sad to see that many spaces were empty/exhibits closed on our visit. Overall better for young families and not an all-day thing.

From Our Editors

The Building Zone at the National Building Museum turns kids into architects, providing a play space where they can erect brick walls, drive bulldozers, and try on hardhats. They can also stop by for weekly monthly story sessions, or learn how arches work by constructing their own 7-foot-tall version out of soft bricks.
