I had a wonderful experience at Sophia La Belle! The salon was very accommodating when I called to book an appointment day-of, and I felt that my preferences/ needs were most definitely taken into account. When I got to Sophia La Belle, I was welcomed warmly, and I didn't have to wait a minute for my appointment. I couldn't be happier with my hair. I felt I was heard when I described the color and cut I wanted, and I am very pleased! I would highly recommend Sophia La Belle to others.

I purchased a Groupon for Sophia La Belle Salon in DC $49 which included a "Shampoo, Haircut, Blow-Dry, and Deep Keratin Conditioning Treatment." I made an appointment to get these services. When I called in to make the appointment I let the staff member what my Groupon was and provided the bar code number for the coupon. At my appt. I sat with Faramond, the owner of the salon, who immediately started suggesting a service that was $50 dollars more than the deal I already purchased. My first question for him was regarding my haircut, "I'm sorry, I thought this deal included a haircut." He told me that the deal did not include a haircut, and kept going on about how the service he was providing was worth upwards of $400. The exchange made me feel uncomfortable, but I told him Keratin treatment would be fine. He asked me why I did not want to purchase a more expensive package, and I let him know that I was without my credit card and had only anticipated on paying a tip in cash. As the treatment began, Faramond told me I could pay an additional $40 for a haircut out of pocket. When he walked away, I checked my phone and saw that the haircut was included in the description. I tried to bring the subject up again, but Faramond told me that it would be impossible for a haircut to be included in the service. I then told him that I wanted a haircut, additional cost or not.Once all the serves were fully completed, I brought my Groupon up to the owner. He looked at me, and told me that I owed him a lot of money. I told him I was confused. He said that I had received the wrong treatment and asked why I hadn't said something. I apologized but told him I couldn't pay anymore. He then took his wallet out and waved cash in front of my face, asking if he should just hand me the money to make it even. He alleged that I was trying to take advantage of him for a free haircut. I was very upset and confused because the owner was very aggressive. Ultimately, I paid $40 in cash, which he refunded to my partner who called. I believe that this particular vendor and their ownership may engage in deceptive practices, with lack of clarity on costs for services, deals made with third party discount companies (Groupon, etc), and ultimately was very abusive, accusatory and rude service. I was shocked when the owner waved money in my face and alleged I was trying to take advantage of his business. I hope this business is looked into for abusive, deceptive practices.

I've purchased a Kertain Groupon offer in the past, and was pleased with the purchase. Unfortunately, I was not pleased with my recent Groupon purchase and experience for the "Sophia La Belle Brazilian Keratin Treatment" ($169). Within my first five minutes in Sophia La Belle the owner, Marc, immediately began upselling me. I've never had this experience with any previous Groupon purchase. He gave me a choice between a Keratin treatment for the price of the Groupon purchase at $169 that doesn't last as long, and would leave my hair looking oily/greasy as if I "hadn't washed my hair in 4-5 days". The other option is $50 more, $219, and it would last 1-2 months longer and I would leave the salon looking like a had a beautiful blowout. I've been getting Japanese, Brazilian Blowouts, and Keratin treatments since 2004. I have never had a treatment that would leave me with oily/greasy hair as I left the salon. I opted for oily/greasy treatment because the owner stated, when I made the appointment, that if I cancelled within a certain timeframe I would be charged. Rather than risk getting charged, I went ahead with the $169 treatment that I purchased on Groupon. As a Groupon customer I am upset that Marc didn't specify that his treatment would have me leaving the salon with greasy hair for $169. Had I been aware of this, I would not have purchased the Groupon. An hour into the process, after the treatment had been applied, Marc began to inform me that his product is superior. Marc's product is superior because, "It is not a Japanese, Brazilian, or Keratin product. This is my own, special, unique product that only two other people in the United States are trained to use. It's better than a Keratin product." Had I known that Marc and his salon Sophia La Belle were not using a Brazilian Keratin product that was advertised on Groupon I never would have purchased this Groupon. He never told me what he put in my hair. The fact that he told me it's not the product I was led to believe I purchased through Groupon would explain why his oily/greasy product treatment is so different than all of the other Brazilian/Japanese/Kertain treatments I've ever purchased. Marc at Sophia La Belle lied to me, and to Groupon, and is selling hair treatments that are not as he is advertising. In addition, he's aggressively upselling his Groupon clients. He tried to sell me five hair products including shampoo and conditioner for $115. If I wanted to maintain his mystery product in my hair I had to use only his products. I declined his multiple offers to buy his products. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. And I am very upset that I have no idea what Marc treated my hair with since it is his own unique and "special" treatment. Everything in his salon, including the products he tried to sell me, we labeled with his salon's name and were not a license Keratin or Brazilian treatment brand name. I have no idea if Marc is even licensed to apply Keratin or Brazilian Treatments on Groupon customers - especially since he didn't have any certifications or licences to use those products posted -- and he stated that the products he applied aren't the one's he's selling or advertising!!! I demand a refund for this horrible experience.
