Very fun and creative. Our kids loved it. Thanks for the fun time!

We waited in line 3 hours in the cold and it was the least scary haunted house I'd ever been to. I was really disappointed. It was obvious they were going for length and not quality.

After waiting in line nearly 2 hours (!!) because they let people who pay more for the express pass to enter before the people waiting in the normal line get to enter, we entered only to find that they were allowing too many people in at a time since the lines were so long, that we even had to wait while we were in the main attraction. Not that fun going through a haunted house when you're close enough to the groups in front of you that you can see/hear what is happening before you get there and it wasn't really that scary because of this. Twice while we were in the main attraction, we had to wait in line as well. Won't be going back.

Well worth the money, it gets better every year.

It was good, but not as long as I was lead to believe. If I had to have waited in the regular line to get in, then it would not have been worth it.

It was great fun; my daughter screamed like a B movie starlet the entire time and loved it! Thanks to the Groupon I brought six people of my own (rather than just paying for myself and my daughter) and my brother and sister in law bought their own Groupon and came along for the fun :) Only suggestion I have is that having 7 people on one rope together was disappointing for the last 3 (uncle, sister in law and brother) because they knew what was coming because they could hear the screams but not be involved in the fun until they "caught up" because most of the time they couldn't see or if they did, they just got to watch the first few of us in the line get the suprises.... :( Maybe not do more than 4 in a group? Or offer to split them up... it was just too many together, but not close enough because of the "line" the rope creates.

From Our Editors

For more than 10 years, The Heart of Darkness has elicited scares from nearly 10,000 visitors every Halloween season with one of the largest haunts in Iowa. People from across the country and ghosts studying abroad brave nine separately themed areas on the terror-infested grounds, from a haunted playground to a maniacal-clown asylum. Each section crawls with grotesque creatures. A living scarecrow swipes at guests with a rusted sickle, causing them to flee right into the padded cell of Crispy, a demented arsonist whose victims gave him a taste of his own medicine by scorching his skin.

So committed to their duty to terrify, owners Kevin and Dolly Schults are affectionately known as The Halloween Family, as detailed on a 2009 episode of ABC's Wife Swap. Outside their spooky corridors, the Schults reward survivors with concession stands, a live DJ, and a photo booth that snapped the pictures Crispy uses for his online-dating profile.
