Maiz Mexican Cantina, Ypsilanti

Most of the dishes at Maiz Mexican Cantina originated in regions thousands of miles away from Michigan. But that doesn't stop the chefs from sourcing their ingredients from local purveyors such as Tortillas Tita in Wayne and Papa Turts Hot Sauces in Fowlerville. The result is an elegant blend of the familiar and the exotic, embodied by inventive dishes such as flautas filled with potato-zucchini hash and a tuna steak sweetened with mango salsa. Of course, Maiz is a cantina, and it lives up to that name with craft beers, 55-ounce margaritas, and good, old-fashioned pints of hot sauce.
