Like a wedding, a PowerPoint presentation can be ruined by ugly color schemes, an interminable length, and too many bullets. Master the art of making your point with today’s Groupon: for $69, you get an Excel- or PowerPoint-training class at AcademyX (up to a $250 value).
For more than 10 years, AcademyX has kept the computer skills of its many white-collar clients up-to-date with hands-on training in a variety of software programs. Excel apprentices learn to create professional-looking spreadsheets, spicy them up with graphs and charts, and manipulate data with formulas and guilt trips. More-seasoned students will master the art of managing large interconnected data sets via multiple workbooks—as well as automating most of the grunt work with conditional formatting and macros. PowerPoint protégés likewise learn how to inject a potentially dull presentation or interactive trade-show display with templates, videos, sound, punchy text, and punches.
As AcademyX's instructors perform their cell-and-slide sleight of hand, students will follow along from their personal workstation, whose side-by-side screens make it easy to compare their work with the teacher's. Class size averages around five students and—as with eggs and angry men—never exceeds 12 in number. Sessions run from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.
