A zoo allows one to visit Mother Nature's progeny without roughing it on a safari or catching a cold in the drafty straw home of the dimmest of the three little pigs. Take a walk on the wild side free of wolf's-breath breezes with today's Groupon: for $10, you get two general-admission tickets to Animal World and Snake Farm Zoo in New Braunfels (up to a $21.11 value). Admission is free for children age 2 and under.

Animal World and Snake Farm Zoo houses more than 500 live mammal and reptile residents, from lemurs and laughing hyenas to slithery rattlesnakes and sharp-toothed alligators. Zoo-goers of all ages can nuzzle up to fuzzy animals in the petting zoo or make fish faces at the caged exotic hoof stock. A dizzying array of gratis special events invite guests to attend riveting talks chock-full of knowledge on the zookeepers' favorite animals, witness crocodile feedings, and ponder tortoises' analyses of Nietzsche's The Birth of Tragedy.

The 44-year-old zoo opens its gates seven days a week. Day-trippers can bring cameras to capture the memories of the day, but should leave butterfly nets and bear traps at home. For a sneak peek at the snake farm, check out the zoo's spot on Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs.

Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo

More than 500 exotic animals prowl, scamper, and crawl through their expansively recreated habitats at Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo. At daily activities and animal encounters, guests can interact with some of their favorite animals, including Penelope the Otter, Ruby the Red-Ruffed Lemur, Daisy the Kinkajou, Hercules the Burmese Python and more.

There's plenty else to see, as well. Carnivore Feedings offer visitors to engage with zoo keepers as they feed some of the zoo's larger meat eaters such as lions, wolves, hyenas, and cougars. Guests quake with curiosity as they watch the crocodile pond. Patrons can interact with cuddlier critters at the petting zoo, including baby goats, sheep, pigs, and even a llama. During the Ghosts of the Safari show, two rare white lions Ngala and Mostwari tumble and play. The lions aren't the only playful residents — visitors can also watch as Pippin the otter pup splashes around and the gray wolf pup Koda frolics in the grass.

Customer Reviews

Great staff, very clean environment for both the guests AND the animals. Great animals, love how close you are to them. My kids loved it, and so do my my husband and I! It is a little small but that is actually a good thing cause it can be done in just an hour or two and will not take the whole day, the kids will wear out and whine, and it is easy to make sure you see all the animals!

For the price of the Groupon, great side trip!!! They have so many snakes and animals, it's pretty amazing how much they have in such a smaller community! Definitely would recommend for a cheaper entertainment alternative!

The Snake Farm is awesome, great place just to stop by with the family. See the snakes, get some ice cream, hit up the petting zoo. All fun.
