Artichoke needs to be steamed than geilled. A little tough.

I love everything about this place. Must mention our bartender Mike... he is a true gem in this industry. He always makes us feel so comfortable, makes great suggestions, and will do whatever it takes to make us happy and keeps us laughing! Highly recommend the cucumber gimlet, Mac and cheese, wings, tips well, just about everything on the menu.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch on a recent weekday afternoon. The service was friendly, fast, and efficient and the food was exceptionally good, especially for the very reasonable prices. We have dined at Cala's now perhaps a half dozen times and have never been disappointed in any way.

What You'll Get

Dining out is often preferable to dining in, especially if you're having trouble getting past the bouncer in your dining room. Succeed at eating with today's Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of upscale tavern fare at Cala's Food & Spirits, located in Manchester.

Cala's pairs a casual dining ambience with a menu packed with savory, New England–style fare. Dinner diners can begin their trip to satiation with the blue-cheese-and-bacon mussels served with pommes frites and a blue-cheese aioli for dipping ($12), or throw back a cup of the soup or chowder concoction of the day ($6). Build-your-own pizzas test your creativity in times of hunger, and preassembled edibles include the po’ boy BLT, topped with your choice of fried shrimp or oysters, slathered with spicy mayo, and served with a side of slaw and hand-cut chips ($14). Local seafood options play prominent roles in the menu's entree chapter, which tells the tale of fish and chips ($18). Like all salads before the Great Salad Schism, the grilled-calamari salad features feta cheese, kalamata olives, grilled onions, roasted tomatoes, creamy polenta croutons, and a lemon vinaigrette ($12). Upon request, Cala's chefs will morph any entree into a vegetarian-friendly concoction, utilizing any menu ingredients desired and available.

About Cala's

Cala's aims for a local flavor, to the extent that one of their regular patrons catches the lobsters that go into dishes such as their lobster rolls. Local flavor infuses their menus, as well, with New England clam chowder among the appetizers and haddock and scallops among the choices for entrees. Diners can build their own pizzas with as many toppings as they please, and many dishes can be made vegetarian-style or without gluten.
