About Cassatt's Cafe & Gallery
While living in New Zealand for a year, Art Hauptman fell in love with the country's thriving café culture. Upon returning in 2002, he opened Cassatt’s Kiwi Café and Gallery which captures the café spirit with New Zealand–inspired breakfast, lunch, and brunch items. Cassatt’s also captures the thriving Kiwi culture at dinner where the menu features items such as savory meat and vegetable pies, leg of lamb steak, and Kiwi-style burgers topped with caramelized onions and fried egg. Chefs also serve up salmon kebobs, classic meatloaf, Nasi Goreng (Indonesian fried rice), and craft homemade desserts such as pavlova, the national dessert of New Zealand and Australia. To help wash down dishes, staffers whip up specialty drinks such as the flat white—a New Zealand-style latte—and pour imported southern hemisphere wines from countries such as New Zealand and South Africa.
Named for impressionist painter Mary Cassatt, the café surrounds diners with monthly showings of work by local artists. Along with visual art, the cozy bistro hosts live musicians every Saturday night, who play everything from Appalachian tunes to American blues.
