About City Winery
In what was once the historic Napa Valley Opera House, a team of vintners carries on the building's century-plus of art-making—only their work pairs nicely with seared salmon, flat iron steak, and tender duck tacos. That's the case at the new Napa outpost of City Winery, a series of urban restaurants that also features kitchens in New York City, Chicago, and Nashville. But while the wine list and menu are unassailable, they're actually only part of the draw. That's because each outpost of the restaurant is also a busy concert venue.
This makes sense when you learn that City Winery is the work of Michael Dorf, founder of the record label Knitting Factory. That fact may also help explain how the restaurants attract their high-profile musical acts. The wine-inspired gourmet cuisine is complemented not only by the contents of the glasses, but also by the sounds of such musicians as Arlo Guthrie and Pete Yorn, and by lectures from the likes of Spike Lee and Rachel "Yoga Girl" Brathen.
