A diner's oversized booths and oversized pies have long been a beacon of hope for teens dumped after prom and frowny clowns looking for new novelty-sized props. Take refuge in the crispy crust of an old-fashioned eatery with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of comfort fare at Classic Cadillac Diner in Lino Lakes. Featuring 50s-style décor and a 1907 Cadillac parked in the center of the dining room, Classic Cadillac Diner offers a menu that defies traffic laws with its wide load of signature omelettes, steaks, burgers, malts, and more. Meat cravers wave a flag of carnivorous liberty with the 12 oz. rib-eye steak ($15.99), and hitchhikers catch a ride with the Cadillac burger, boasting a vintage pairing of cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, and fried egg ($8.49). The classic diner transports tasters back to the 1950s, much like the current trends of jukebox roller skates and bobby-sock pompadours (see the full menu online for more details and prices).
The Quad Community Press featured Classic Cadillac Diner:
- Coca Cola memorabilia and classic car posters line the walls. Colorful vinyl booths provide a cozy retro atmosphere. And then there’s the mint 1907 Cadillac, which justifies the diner’s name… Admirers can view the antique car while dining on the restaurant’s popular skillets and read its list of stats. The Cadillac has two forward gears and reverse and a top speed of 20 mph. Headlights require a match and the wheel assemblies are Amish made. The car cost a whopping $800 in 1907, said Snyder, and still runs. It even has an oil leak. – Debra Neutkens, Quad Community Press
